‘Safeguard out oceans’: Jared Huffman revives update to fisheries bill
Last week, lawmakers from the House Natural Resource Committee announced that they were reintroducing the “Sustaining America’s Fisheries for the Future Act,” a reauthorization of and update to the Magnuson-Stevens Act (MSA), “the country’s primary statute governing fisheries management in federal waters.”

![The 20th Ocean Day was marked May 29 at the Mike Thompson Wildlife Area on the South Spit of the Humboldt Bay as 700 local youth created the ocean message "restore balance" with the image of a sea otter and bull kelp.
Leading up to the event, students participate in educational classroom presentations that explore the causes and impacts of marine debris, as well as identify possible solutions. Through these educational presentations, students gain a deeper understanding of environmental stewardship.
